I have personally found it difficult to find fitness events for tactical athletes, so I have included all of the companies that I know of that host these types of events. If YOU know of others, please let me know in the comments (include a link to their website if possible) so that I can add them to this list and we can improve this resource for everyone's benefit.
Note: I define tactical events as fitness events that demand the same/similar fitness skills/tasks as those used in the military. This can include shooting competitions if the shooting competitions demands physical fitness outside of just moving around a very small area like a USPSCA event.
The list below is in alphabetical order.
I found this one after posting this article originally, so this is an update. It looks these matches are held in West Virginia, and they appear to be similar in style to The Patriot Games, Osprey Shooting Series, and a few others listed below. It's another potential option out there for you.
GORUCK hosts all kinds of events from purely rucking to shooting training and even an event modeled after Army Special Forces Assessment & Selection. They hosted the GORUCK Games in 2022 & 2023 (which I believe they've discontinued now) and they are partnered with all sorts of fitness companies including Crossfit, Hyrox, Savage Race, and DekaFit. They have a ton of different events and types of training. I competed in the 2022 GORUCK Games and have attended one of their pistol courses, and both were well run events, so my personal experience with GORUCK has been good.
Green Beret Fitness is one that I learned about in 2023. They host rucking events/races in tons of states on very challenging trails. They also host two (at least the past two years) tactical shooting competitions that incorporate rucking, shooting, and more. I haven't made it to any of their events yet due to family and work schedules, but they have two events that I really want to try to make it to in 2025.
This company is located in North Carolina, and only hosts events at their facility there. For the past 2 years (that's as long as I've known about them), they have hosted a multi-event tactical fitness shooting series. This year they had 5 separate shooting competitions and cumulative points to win the overall 5-shoot match. I've attended 3 of their competitions in the last 2 years, and I love their matches. They use sandbags, ladders, sleds, and more and they come up with creative shooting challenges and stages. Here is a video of one of the stages an event in 2024. THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT ABOUT THEIR MATCHES IS TO FOLLOW THEIR INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT.
Tactical fitness isn't just for those in the military - it's practical fitness. The ability to move over long distances, carry heavy weights, stay calm under pressure, help others, and so much more. View our Tactical Fitness Training Programs for training that will prepare your for life, competitions (like those in this article), work, and so much more.
I've never done this event, but from what I've seen of their social media posts, and what I've read on their website, this involves more precision shooting along with rucking and other physical challenges. Look it up for yourself for more details, but if I get the chance, I do want to try out Recce Challenge for its unique format.
According to the website, this is a 2-day competition which includes running, rucking, and 16 shooting stages. It sounds like a perfect physical and shooting skills competition. The location listed is Fort Meade, FL.
These events sell out within minutes. I'm not exaggerating when I say that. You have to be on the ball, ready to purchase a ticket when sales open for an event. I was on a wait list for one of their events last year, and 2 days before the event I got an email saying a slot opened, but I had already committed to something else, so I didn't get to the event. I know some people who have done these events, and they love them. Essentially, you are running a 5K, but stopping throughout with pistol and rifle shooting challenges.
These events look awesome. They are in the same style/format as The Tactical Games (below) and the Osprey series (mentioned above). Again, I haven't made it to any of these events personally yet, but they look awesome. I believe most, if not all, of their events are in Florida.
I've met someone who works for The Proving Grounds, and they have held competitions at locations where I've done other competitions, but I haven't made it to one of their events yet. Very similar format/style to The Patriot Games, Osprey series, and so on. You're doing shooting mixed with fitness events like rope climbs, heavy carries, sled drags, and so on.
For those living in the UK, or interested in traveling there for challenging tactical events, this is for you. I just found out about this company a few days ago (it's actually what inspired me to create this list), and I think it looks cool. I only know what I read on the website, so check it out for yourself.
I just learned about this company because someone who co-hosts it commented on this article post on a Reddit page. The website says that they host competitions similar to The Tactical Games in format/style. It seems that they also host them very frequently. I found a Youtube video of someone competing (click the photo below to view it) and it looks like a great match.
This is last on our list because of the alphabet, but this is probably the most well-known company in the USA for Tactical (shooting and tough, physical) competitions. They have heavy weights, and multi-day events. I've wanted to try one of these for years, but they cost over $300 (not including ammo or travel costs) and take up a whole weekend, so I have yet to try one. Maybe one day! It looks awesome though, that's for sure.
