As far as I know, there is a Ruck, there is a quarter mile obstacle course (Thanks Savage Race), and there is some sort of fitness competition...thing. GORUCK is being unspecific about it all, which keeps things interesting for sure!
SO! With all of the "unknowns", what is my strategy for this event? I'll tell you. No secrets here. I'm an open book.
Here's my plan:
Step 1: Hydrate and stay hydrated. I'm sure it'll be nice and sunny and hot. Perhaps even humid. Staying hydrated will be key. Someone will forget to stay hydrated correctly during this event and their performance will suffer as a result, but I'm going to make sure that person isn't me.
Step 2: Take care of my body between, before, and after each event. Essentially, warmup completely before events, cool down and stretch and foam roll and whatever else after events, and stay mobile and loose between.

Step 3: Eat a TON. I burn calories like crazy, and I think that eating as much as I can without eating too much is the best. Just the best. Fully loaded on all the energy needed.
Step 4: For me, competitive sports is all about how well you perform on event day. To me, it's not about "doing my best" or "I tried my hardest and that's all that matters". I want to perform at the highest level that I know I can. If I give it everything I have that day, but it's not what I know my best can be, then I won't be happy with my work. I'm going for my best performance.
Step 5: Relax and have fun. I always perform better when having fun. Also, this sounds like it's going to be a super fun festival with the whole Sandlot JAX Fitness Festival.
That's it. I know, super elaborate. I'm excited to compete there and have a great time. I'm really grateful to GORUCK for the opportunity. It's going to be a blast!
